<p>The Program in Educational Communication and Technology offers master´s and doctoral degrees that prepare individuals for leadership positions in the application of cognitive theory and related views of learning and instruction to technology-based learning environments.       <title>New Ph.D. Program in Engineering Education at Virginia Tech</title>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>The Engineering Education department at Virginia Tech announces the start of a new Ph.D. program, Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Education. Students will be admitted to the program beginning January 2008. This new program is only the second such Ph.D. program in the United States offered by a dedicated department of engineering education housed within the College of Engineering. The new cross-disciplinary doctoral program responds to the need for rigorous theoretical and methodological advances in our understanding of engineering education, improved teaching of engineering at all levels, and design of responsive learning environments for engineering education.  Collectively, the 15 faculty members of the department hold degrees in English; Information Design; Learning Sciences; Linguistics; Communication; Mathematics; and 11 different engineering disciplines, making it one of the most diverse engineering departments in existence.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>The Department of Teacher Education in the College of Education at Michigan State University is seeking one or more tenure-system faculty scholars at the assistant, associate or full professor levels as part of ongoing priority initiatives in science education.  MSU is committed to strategically increasing its capacity to provide national leadership by building on our long standing record of excellence in research, teacher education, graduate education, and curriculum development. The faculty in science education at MSU spans several academic units and works collaboratively to address cross-university needs and responsibilities, with coordination provided through the Division of Science and Mathematics Education. Appointments will be possible in the Department of Teacher Education, the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education, and the Division of Science and Mathematics Education. Joint appointments and other cross-departmental and cross-college arrangements are possible and encouraged.</p><p>We seek faculty candidates with primary research interests in science education, and we especially encourage applications from those with expertise in science teaching and learning in urban contexts, teacher education at all levels, educational policy or assessment. In addition, experience in use and application of technology in instruction or education is desirable.</p><p><b>Major responsibilities.</b>  Faculty who assume these positions will conduct research and inquiry and teach undergraduate, masters and doctoral courses. Additional duties will vary depending on departmental placement and rank, university and academic unit education needs, and the candidate's experience and interest.  Faculty will be involved in continuing efforts to foster collaborations among the Colleges of Education, Natural Science and the K-12 community.  These are academic year positions with a proposed starting date of Fall 2008.</p><p><b>Qualifications.</b>  All candidates are expected to have an earned doctorate including emphasis in science education, a record of scholarly accomplishment through publication and success in obtaining and leading externally funded projects appropriate to stage in academic career, and participation in interdisciplinary work. National leadership in science education initiatives is desirable, evidence of capacity to contribute to the intellectual, research, and instructional life of MSU is essential. </p><p>We invite inquiries from potentially interested candidates. <p>The Learning and Performance Support Laboratory (LPSL) (<a href="http://lpsl.coe.uga.edu">http://lpsl.coe.uga.edu</a>) is pleased to announce a senior-level, tenure-track research position at the Associate/Full Professor level beginning Fall 2008. We seek an individual with outstanding accomplishments for advancing technology innovation in teaching, learning or performing. The successful candidate will provide leadership in the Lab, College, University, and beyond and maintain a research and development agenda appropriate to his or her interests, including developing proposals for external funding, overseeing project development and implementation, disseminating research through scholarly writing and presentations, mentoring graduate students, and collaborating with faculty on research activities related to the Lab's mission. The candidate will contribute to the instructional and service missions of an academic department, where appointment, tenure and promotion will be determined based upon the candidate's background, expertise and interests.</p>

<p>The LPSL is an interdisciplinary research and development unit of the College of Education and The University of Georgia. Affiliated LPSL researchers include university faculty, K-12 educators, and industry partners. LPSL researchers, individually and collaboratively, advance research, theory and practice related to technology's roles in interactive learning environments, teacher preparation and school reform, and assessment. Lab R&D focuses on technology's potential to improve teaching, learning and performing across subject areas (e.g., science, mathematics, etc.), age-grade levels (e.g., children's learning, adult professional development, etc), and settings (e.g., pre K-12 schools, universities, corporate training, etc).</p>

<p>Required qualifications:</p>

<li>Earned doctorate in a related field (e.g., instructional technology, teacher education, learning sciences, math or science education, educational psychology)</li>
<li>Established program of research related to the Lab's mission</li>
<li>Track record in securing external funding</li>
<li>Eligible for tenure in an academic department in the College of Education</li></ul>

<p>Recognizing that the ability to work with, create, and learn from computational artifacts is highly desirable for citizens in contemporary society, Northwestern's School of Education and Social Policy has established a position for an assistant professor in computational literacy.  We seek a scholar who studies how new technologies can improve learning in fundamental ways, by influencing cognition, construction, representation and/or interpersonal interactions.  We welcome applications from candidates with interests in exploring how new and pervasive computational technologies such as computer-based modeling, visualization, scaffolded tools, virtual reality, games, ubiquitous computing, or social networking, enable powerful learning in schools and other settings. We are open to a wide range of approaches to scholarship. <p>The University of Illinois at Chicago invites applicants for an open rank, joint faculty position in Computer Science and Learning Sciences beginning August 16, 2008.</p>

<p>The new Learning Sciences Ph.D. program (<a href="http://www.lsri.uic.edu">http://www.lsri.uic.edu</a>), housed in the Graduate College, currently has four joint- appointment faculty members in addition to over a dozen active adjunct faculty. The Department of Computer Science (<a href="http://www.cs.uic.edu/">http://www.cs.uic.edu</a>), situated in the College of Engineering, has 27 faculty members, including a human-computer interaction group strongly aligned with the Learning Sciences program. The position will also include membership in the UIC Learning Sciences Research Institute.</p>

<p>We seek applicants with a record of research and publication focusing at the nexus of Computer Science and the Learning Sciences. Candidates must hold a doctorate in Computer Science, Learning Sciences, or closely related fields, and should have a demonstrated record of research focusing on the design and evaluation of technologies to support learners that impacts both fields. Position responsibilities include carrying out a program of research and scholarship at the national level and teaching graduate courses in the Learning Sciences Program and the Department of Computer Science.  The tenure line for the position will be within the Department of Computer Science.</p>
