An Opportunity for Ph.D. students

The Doctoral Consortium at CSCL 97 provides an opportunity for Ph.D. students to share their current dissertation work-in-progress with their peers and faculty selected from across our field. Consortium participation is open only to Ph.D. candidates who have successfully completed their dissertation proposal. The Doctoral Consortium will be held in the two days preceeding the conference.

Objectives

The consortium has the following objectives:

Eligibility

Participants for the Doctoral Consortium will be selected on the basis of their anticipated contribution to the workshop goals, and the progress of your dissertation. Work that is completed or very close to completion will not be accepted for the Consortium. Emphasis will be placed on forming a diverse group of high quality students. To promote informal and personal interaction, between ten and fifteen applicants will be selected for participation.

Application Procedure

To apply, please submit six stapled copies of the following materials:

  1. A cover sheet with your name, title of your dissertation, your advisor's name, your institution, your full postal address, phone numbers, and e-mail address (this is very important).

  2. A two page summary of your thesis work, in the format specified by the CSCL 97 general submission guidelines for papers. Summaries of accepted participants may be published in the CSCL 97 proceedings. Please submit camera ready copy in your application, as there will be no time to allow revisions to be made before submission to the proceedings.

  3. letter of recommendation from your thesis advisor. This must include an assessment of the current status of your work, and an expected date for thesis completion.

  4. any additional information which may indicate your potential contribution to the Doctoral Consortium.

Applications submitted via e-mail or fax will not be acceptable. Deadline for submission is September 10, 1997. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance status via e-mail.
