Gothenburg is situated on the west coast of Sweden and is the second largest city in the country. There is a distinct maritime atmosphere, with a mixture of older, well-preserved districts and exciting new developments. It is also a popular tourist destination and offers many points of interests including gardens, parks, museums and other cultural highlights. Particularly noteworthy is the Southern Gothenburg Archipelago with its many picturesque islands that can be reached by ferryboats.
The University of Gothenburg Faculty of Education, with its 4.000 students and approximately 450 employees, is located at the heart the city.
