The Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Social Studies/History Education in the Teaching, Curriculum, and Society (TCS) department. We are interested in emerging scholars whose work focuses on the teaching and learning of history and social studies, in elementary and/or secondary schooling contexts as well as on broader issues in curriculum and instruction. We encourage applicants whose research explores the intersection of research, theory, and improved teaching and learning in k-12 classrooms. We especially welcome applicants whose research and teaching take critical and/or transnational perspectives.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will engage in an active nationally and internationally recognized research program in history/social studies education. They will teach courses in the TCS department including social studies/history methods courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in addition to teaching core courses in our graduate Curriculum and Instruction masters and doctoral programs. They will also provide service to the broader Lynch School and Boston College community including advising undergraduate and graduate students.

Qualifications

Priority will be given to applicants who have established or are establishing an active program of research with an interest in disseminating their work to broader public audiences as well as to scholarly peers, and whose work will contribute to innovations across LSEHD. Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) by June 2025.

Application Instructions

To apply, please submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, two samples of scholarly writing, evidence of successful teaching (examples of these materials could include: a teaching observation, teaching philosophy, materials for certificate of teaching, course evaluations, course syllabi, course or webinar video), and three contact references by uploading to http://apply.interfolio.com/149127. Confidential letters of recommendation will be required at the finalist stage. Review of applications will begin September 15, 2024 and continue until the position is filled.
