The School of Education at the University of Michigan seeks a colleague for a tenure-track appointment (open rank) in the Educational Studies program. We seek applications from a diverse pool of scholars with a strong focus on educational technologies; specifically, we seek scholars whose research has focused on the application of educational technologies to achieve more just and equitable educational learning opportunities, teaching practices, policies, and systems. We seek a scholar who has demonstrated the capacity to contribute to the creation and use of scholarship in education, with strong methodological training in quantitative, qualitative, or multiple methods, who has the ability to teach courses in education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and who seeks to influence practice and policy. Applicants interested in learning with technology across a range of contexts including K-12, higher education, or community-based settings are encouraged to apply. Applicants at the advanced assistant or associate professor rank are strongly encouraged to apply.
Candidates should have a track record of outstanding scholarship in education. The appointment may be at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor, or associate or full professor with tenure. Candidates for associate or full professor should be nationally-recognized scholars with a strong record of empirical studies and external funding. Candidates at the assistant professor level should have outstanding potential and a defined research agenda related to educational improvement through the study of technology. At all levels, demonstrated teaching ability, strong methodological skills, and a desire to develop sponsored research are required.
Successful candidates will have:
- a doctorate in education, learning sciences, connected learning, new media ecologies, cognitive science, educational psychology, computer science, human-computer interaction, assistive technologies, anthropology, sociology, or neuroscience;
- demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity;
- a program of research and publications commensurate with rank;
- experience teaching in higher education;
- a track record of developing and securing grants to support research (Associate/Full), or the promise of developing such a track record (Assistant); and
- a strong interest in advising and mentoring graduate students.

Candidates will be expected to pursue an active research agenda, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, advise graduate students, direct doctoral dissertations, and serve as an active member of the School of Education, the University, and education professional communities. Experience mentoring students of diverse backgrounds, including women, students of color, LGBTQ students and first-generation college students, is desired.
Educational Studies has an internationally recognized faculty committed to: the study and advancement of equity and social justice in school and out of school settings, effective teaching in the core disciplines, the study of how technologies and other educational innovations enhance teaching and learning, the social and political contexts and the historical and philosophical foundations of schooling, and the use of evidence to shape education policy and public discussions on curriculum, teaching, and achievement. Graduates of our program become engaged in academic and research careers in university programs, research organizations, or public agencies; administrative positions in school systems, educational centers, or national, regional, and state agencies; and in teacher education, professional development and curriculum positions in local and state systems and educational companies as well as for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
We plan to fill the position with a start date of August 2022. Salary will be negotiated on the basis of the candidate’s experience and qualifications. The appointment will be for the regular nine-month academic year with possible additional remuneration for administrative duties. Salaries at the University of Michigan compare favorably with those at other leading institutions of higher education.
