ISLS 2024 Call for Volunteers

In order to make this event a success, we need the help of volunteers to work at the Meeting.

How can you help us?

  • Here are some of the tasks involved: Check-in and Registration Assistance, Technical Support for Presentations, Conference badge preparation, Wayfinding and Information Services, Support for Community Day Events, Accessibility Assistance, Set-up and Clean-up.
  • Specific tasks will be assigned at the orientation session that will be held in early June, a week before the conference.

Benefits of Volunteering

  • People who volunteer more than 12 hours over the 4.5 day conference period Monday to Thursday (June 10–14), and/or the pre-conference workshops, Saturday and Sunday (June 8–9), will have their registration fee discounted down to a total of cost of around $5–10.
  • Receive a letter to confirm their contribution to the ISLS annual event. Minimum quantity of volunteer work is required.
  • Unique experience working on an international conference with eminent researchers in the field of Learning Sciences.
  • Network with leading figures and peers in the learning sciences community.
  • Be part of a vibrant and supportive volunteer team, making a real difference in the success of our conference.

In addition, we will provide you with (during your shift):

  • Free T-shirt with the conference logo to easily identify you as a volunteer
  • Secure spaces to keep your personal belongings
  • Meals and snacks (e.g., coffee, sandwiches, cookies)

What kind of candidates are we looking for?

We welcome applications from all individuals (both local and international), attending the ISLS Annual Meeting.

Availability during the following periods:

  • June 8–9 (preconference workshops); and/or
  • June 10 to 14
  • Flexible working hours!
  • Shifts can be scheduled around times you need to present your own work

Please be aware: If you’re interested in volunteering to receive a registration fee coupon, wait to register for the conference until we’ve responded to your inquiry. The deadline for completing this form coincides with the regular registration deadline, May 10. Thanks!

JLS Outstanding Paper (2022): Utilizing dance resources for learning and engagement in STEM

This paper authored by Folashadé Solomon, Dionne Champion, Mariah Steele and Tracey Wright received the Outstanding Paper Award from the Journal of the Learning Sciences. As the selection panel comments, “By employing culturally responsive pedagogy, the authors established a connection between the learning of physics and dance education, thereby promoting access and equity…The meticulous analysis provided insights into how dance, as an embodied form of knowledge, facilitated a transformation in the black girls’ relationship with physics.”
