WPI announces 2 inter-disciplinary faculty searches at the edge of Learning Sciences and Computer Science, to start in July 2015. The first one is an open-rank position in the learning sciences, the second one is a tenure-track position in Serious Games (for Education, or Health). The Social Science and Policy Studies (SSPS) Department at WPI announces an Open Rank Tenure Track position in the Learning Sciences. Candidates should have a doctorate in Psychology, Learning Sciences, Human-Computer Interaction or a related field (e.g., Cognitive Science, Education, Learning Technologies, or Sociology). The ideal candidate should have a strong program of fundable research and experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. The candidate’s research should complement our current research strengths in: technology for STEM learning/assessment, intelligent tutoring systems, game-based learning environments, and educational data mining. Fundamentally, the LS&T faculty are looking for collaborators to advance our goal of improving K-16 education with learning technologies.
The selected candidate will teach courses in our Learning Sciences and Technologies graduate program (e.g., Foundations of Learning Sciences, Educational Learning Environments, Metacognition, Motivation & Affect) as well as courses in the undergraduate psychology program (e.g., Cognitive, Educational, or Developmental Psychology). In addition, the new faculty member will be invited to create new graduate courses in areas of interest. Candidates should hold a terminal degree at the time of appointment in any related discipline and should have a research focus in Serious Games.
WPI is very well positioned for the development of Serious Games in education through our Learning Sciences & Technologies Program (http://www.wpi.edu/academics/lst.html), and in health-related areas through our multi-university Healthcare Delivery Institute (http://www.wpi.edu/research/hdi.html). We welcome candidates with interests in these and other Serious Games areas. Successful candidates will have a clear plan to establish a research program within IMGD, seek external research funding, and participate in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Exceptional candidates may be hired at the Associate or Full Professor level.
Established in 2005, the IMGD Program is a collaborative venture between the Computer Science and the Humanities & Arts Departments, combining the technical and artistic aspects of game development in a balanced approach that is bound together by the importance of design. The 12 core and 9 additional affiliated IMGD faculty members bring diverse skills and experience to the teaching and scholarship of all things interactive. The IMGD Program enjoys strong support from the university and has state-of-the-art space and equipment for designing, creating, and evaluating next-generation interactive experiences.
